Heart and Soul is a 10-week series of classes offered by CIC Ministries’ staff chaplains for young women under the age of 25. Criminologists have determined that the fastest growing rate of incarceration is among young women 15-24 years old. This group is at very high risk for violence, substance abuse, and gang involvement. Incarcerated young women have specific needs for their age and gender that can be addressed through education and individual counseling. The young participants are offered specialized services through presentations, special speakers, group discussions, creative activities, and individual pastoral counseling to encourage transformation. Specific gender and age issues are addressed to strengthen self-identity, spiritual empowerment, and healthy relationships with family, children, community, and God.
Class topics include:
| Family of origin – exploration and discussion | |
| Identifying experiences of loss and grief | |
| Identity and body image | |
| Guilt and shame – the masks we wear | |
| Choosing healthy friendships | |
| Evaluating romantic relationships | |
| Domestic violence | |
| Parenting | |
| Conflict resolution and communication | |
| Goals, strengths, and your future. |
